Generative AI Statement

Tobacco Road Games and Generative AI

This page preserves the Tobacco Road Games AI statement while adding the broader house philosophy that guides how creative tools, disclosure, and product standards are handled.

House Standard

Our Position on AI and Creative Tools

Tobacco Road Games is not anti AI or pro AI. We are pro honesty, pro rights, pro quality, and pro customer choice.

Creative tools change. That has always been true. Writers use dictionaries, editors, layout software, spellcheckers, stock art, reference images, digital brushes, generators, automation, search tools, and now AI assisted systems. The tool itself is not the issue. The issue is how the tool is used, whether the work is honestly presented, whether the creator has the right to use what appears in the product, and whether the final result is worth a customer's money.

We do not reject tools.

  • We reject deception.
  • We reject theft.
  • We reject spam.
  • We reject lazy shovelware.

Products published by Tobacco Road Games should be clearly labeled, honestly described, and responsibly made. Customers deserve to know what they are buying. Creators deserve room to use modern tools without pretending they still work by candlelight and goose quill. Both sides deserve a marketplace built on clarity instead of virtue signaling and purity panic.

Our standard is simple

Tell the truth. Own your work. Respect the buyer. Make something worth buying.

Existing Statement

Tobacco Road Games AI Statement

Tobacco Road Games is an author-led, human-directed publishing imprint. Every Tobacco Road Games product begins with the ideas, design goals, table experience, creative judgment, and final approval of RV Sawyer.

Generative AI tools may be used as part of the production workflow. This may include brainstorming support, drafting assistance, editing passes, rules review, continuity checks, layout preparation, product description development, visual exploration, and artwork generation. These tools are used under human direction. They do not originate the product, determine its creative purpose, or replace the author.

The final responsibility for a Tobacco Road Games product rests with RV Sawyer. Concepts, mechanics, tone, structure, product identity, rules judgment, revisions, and publication approval remain human decisions.

Artwork is an important part of roleplaying game publishing, and small-press publishing requires practical production choices. When generative AI artwork is used in a finished Tobacco Road Games product, it is used as directed art, selected and approved for the needs of that specific product. Tobacco Road Games will disclose and tag AI-generated content according to the requirements of the marketplace where the product is sold.

Tobacco Road Games does not claim that products are "human-made without AI" when generative AI has contributed to the finished product.

The goal is simple: make useful, imaginative, affordable roleplaying game material with a clear human voice and responsible disclosure. AI may help carry tools to the table. It does not sit at the head of it.

Disclosure

Individual product pages may include creation method notes, asset credits, and production disclosures where relevant. Those notes are there to connect this policy to the specific work in front of the buyer.
